Achromatic Design Challenge

The Achromatic Design Challenge is one of the main projects of the Intro to 2D Design course I teach at SUNY Oneonta. The project goal is to use the principles of design, and creative problem solving, to design and paint a unique dynamic achromatic (meaning without color) composition that conveys not only the students’ chosen creature, but hints at how the student feels about this creature (love, fear, tenderness, awe, frustration). The final project is an 11 x 14 inch painting done in black and white and gray.
